The Sandbox needs you!

Calling all Parents Centre members and Friends

A recent survey has shown us that members value The Sandbox - Wellington regional Parents Centre magazine. To keep producing The Sandbox, publication the team needs rejuvenating.

The team needs
  • an advertising co-ordinator
  • a co-ordinator from each centre
  • content contributors

Without support the April/May issue will be the last.

Know where to get Coffee and Desert!

  • Want to keep your skills fresh while on maternity leave?
  • Want to try your hand at something new?
  • Want to meet some new people and have a few laughs?

If you answered yes to all these questions, then, we’ve got the answer!

We need some help in 2010 to co-ordinate and organise the services we offer members.

We need organisational superstars to help arrange the logistics for our Baby and You classes; we’re after someone with an accounts background to be our treasurer, and if you’re keen to try your hand at marketing – we’re also looking for a publicity officer. There are also several other roles available.

There’s plenty of support for new team members – you’ll be buddied up with a more experienced person until you get to know the ropes of the role you’re interested in. If you’ve enjoyed your coffee group, then come and help us out, and help other parents enjoy the same experience.

We’re having a coffee and dessert evening in February to meet with people who may be interested in volunteering in 2010. To find out more about the roles we’ve got available and what’s involved, check out these short descriptions:
  • Baby and You Class Co-ordinator
  • Parent Education team member
  • Marketing and Publicity Officer
  • Treasurer
  • Committee Secretary

To RSVP for the coffee and dessert evening, or if you want more info about any of the roles contact joseandles@xtra.co.nz or phone us on 04 237 6262.

Baby and You Class Co-Ordinator
  • Involves arranging the Baby and You classes (typically 9 -11 classes per annum) including setting class dates, making venue bookings, assigning Mums to classes and liaison with them about the class dates and times.
  • Typically 3-5 hours per month
  • This role would suit an organisational superstar who has a good attention to detail.

Parent Education team member
  • Be part of the team that organises our parent education programme. As a member of this team, you’ll have a hand in deciding what courses we run each year, sourcing suitable presenters, and organising the logistics for each class (approx 20 per annum). The team divvies up the tasks according to the interests and experience of each person, so there is scope to be involved more directly with some tasks (eg sourcing presenters) but not others (eg organising class logistics).
  • This role would suit those with an ear to the ground about issues that are important to people with young children, and a friendly and professional approach to communicating with others.

Marketing and publicity officer
  • If you’re keen to give marketing a go in a relaxed environment, or if you’re a PR professional, then this could be the role for you. This role is responsible for writing our regular member newsletter, updating our website, co-ordinating advertising and media releases and providing advice on how to best market our fundraisers.
  • The current marketing officer estimates the time commitment at around 6-8 hours a month.

Treasurer
  • As treasurer, your main responsibilities include banking, processing payments and preparation of month-end accounts. The treasurer would also complete the annual budget in consultation with our President.
  • This role would suit someone keen to extend their skills beyond accounts processing, or someone keen to keep their skills fresh while on parental leave. A background in accounts is necessary, and experience with MYOB would be an advantage.

Committee secretary
  • We need an organiser extraordinaire for our Secretary. This important role keeps the rest of the committee on the straight and narrow. If you’re a process person, then this role is for you! Main responsibilities include: clearing mail and distributing it, filing, and taking minutes.
